5 Tips For More Confidence

Do you have the confidence to succeed as a property investor?

Are you confident that you will be able to tackle every obstacle that comes your way in your pursuit of freedom?

These days I am confident in the majority of my business dealings. But it wasn’t always that way.

I have missed out on major opportunities in the past because I didn’t feel confident enough to take them on.

Have you ever felt that way?

You probably have and there is nothing wrong with that.

I firmly believe that confidence is a major contributor to success. You can do anything you want if you have the confidence. It is what sets the successful people apart from the unsuccessful.

To grow as human beings we need to move outside of our comfort zones. Most people do the same things over and over again every day and then complain that they are not successful. They will claim that successful people are “lucky” or “got in at the right time”. I remember saying these things myself a few years ago.

So in this post I want to share with you 5 tips to boost your confidence that have really worked for me and I strongly believe will work for you as well. Before I do that let’s examine why it is so important to be self confident.

Why you need to be Self Confident

When you are self confident others will admire you and you will have the power to inspire others. A self confident individual will take calculated risks and will face their fears head on. It doesn’t matter what obstacles get in their way they always have the confidence to get over these obstacles. This is essential in property investment and business in general.

A self confident person sees the positive aspects of every situation. It doesn’t matter how bad things get they will use their positive outlook to move forward. Just imagine what you could do with this level of confidence. Well with a bit of practice you can become super self confident and achieve all of your goals.

If you know that you have low confidence levels then never believe that you will be stuck with this forever. You can learn to be more self confident at any time in your life and if you practice the 5 techniques that I will share with you here you can become a confidence master.

Think about this for a moment – if you do not have total belief in yourself then how can you expect anyone else to believe in you?

So I want you to read the 5 tips that I share with you below and really take them on board. Please don’t just read this post and then move on to something else. Make a commitment to becoming more confident right now and start to use the techniques today. With regular practice you will soon become more confident than you ever thought possible.

Becoming more confident with these tips is not a miracle. You are not going to be able to do these things one time and then be a super confident being. Work on these techniques every day. Create a list of them and make sure that you can see them at your office and at home.

1. Embrace Positivity and Avoid Negativity

There is negativity all around us. Every time you watch the news on TV a barrage of negativity hits you. It is the same if you read newspapers or surf the Internet for news stories. It’s all doom and gloom so the best thing you can do is to minimise your time spent doing this.

I am not saying here that you shouldn’t know what is going on in the world. If that is important to you then go for it. But watching a 30 minute news program or spending the same amount of time reading a newspaper or reading news on the web is too much negativity at once. I would recommend that you stop doing this altogether when you are starting out.

Another source of negativity comes from the people that you associate with. Some of your colleagues, family members and friends will be negativity merchants. They see the black side of everything and love to spread this as far and wide as they can. This can have a significant impact on your confidence levels.

You know who these people are so do your best to avoid them. Even a temporary break away from these people will help you to focus on the positive. When you are dealing with anyone inject some positive enthusiasm into your conversations. Share your enthusiasm for your next property investment project with your team for example.

One of the biggest mistakes that I made in my early years was believing that I could change others from being negative to positive. Your self confidence can certainly rub off on others but they can only change themselves. Sharing this post with them is a good idea. Just focus on building your own confidence levels by becoming more positive each day.

Surrounding yourself with like minded and positive people will help you a lot. You can find these kind of people at the Chamber of Commerce and other networking events. There are also communities and groups that you can join online.

2. Improve your Body Language and overall Image

Are you good at making eye contact with others? Do you stand tall when you meet new people? Do you smile a lot? If you have an issue with any of these then you need to make some improvements here.

The way that a person stands tells you a lot about their self confidence. Try this easy exercise. Stand up and pull your shoulders back. Use a mirror to see how this looks. You will certainly appear more self confident when you do this.

Another very easy thing to do is to smile more often. It will make people around you feel more comfortable and you will feel better too. Changing your posture by moving your shoulders back and smiling more will do wonders for your self confidence.

The next change will take a bit more practice and time if you are not good at it now. I am talking about eye contact. When you are speaking to people look directly at them rather than looking on the floor. Speak more slowly than you normally do as well.

Finally take a look at your current image. Do you need a new hairstyle and some new clothes? If so then treat yourself! You will feel a lot better about yourself and others will see you as self confident too.

3. Stop Accepting Failure and Deal with Negative Self Talk

Failure is an inevitable part of success. In my earlier years I could never accept failure. It would drive me crazy and drain my confidence. There are times when I just wanted to give up and do something else when things went wrong. Have you had these kinds of experiences with failure?

The best way to tackle failure is to learn from it and move on. If you have not read my post on the Power of Persistence and Consistency then I strongly recommend that you do. There is always a solution to every problem that comes your way and throwing in the towel is never the answer. When you succeed in the face of adversity you give your confidence a massive boost.

A lot of people have low confidence levels because they listen to the negative self talk that happens in their heads. This self talk is always switched on when you are awake and if you don’t control it then it can destroy your confidence.

Imagine that you have to walk into a room full of strangers to discuss a potential property investment deal. You know that this deal is very good news for your business but your negative self talk kicks in and tells you that you are not worthy of such a deal.

You tell yourself that you do not have the knowledge and experience to make this deal happen for example. Do not let this negative self talk drive down your confidence levels. Whenever a negative thought like this enters your head you need to neutralise it with a positive thought.

So if your mind is telling you that you are not smart enough to pull off a deal say to yourself “I am incredibly smart and I will get this deal easily” or something similar. Controlling your mind in this way will increase your confidence more than you could ever believe.

4. Prepare to Win

Going into something unprepared is a real test of your confidence. Sometimes you just have to do this but most of the time you will be able to prepare. Learn everything that you can about the property investment business by reading online, taking training courses, attending seminars and getting a good mentor.

As your knowledge builds you will become more confident. If you have to give a presentation or attend a meeting then plan what you are going to say. Knowledge and preparedness will always make you more confident.

5. Be Grateful and Record your Victories

Write a list of the things that you are grateful for in your life. This can be your health, your family, friends and colleagues, your intelligence, your things and so on. Keep adding to this list regularly as you are not going to think of everything the first time around.

Think about the things that you achieved in the past against the odds. Write down everything you are proud to have achieved no matter how small and insignificant they may seem now. Over time you should be able to create a long list of your life victories.

A thermometer with mercury bursting through the glass, and the words Confidence Level, symbolizing a positive attitude

Put these 2 lists in a place that you will see them every day. Better still start a daily journal and write the lists in there. The idea here is to show yourself that you really are an amazing person and you have achieved so much in your life already. These lists will really inspire you and give your confidence a much needed boost.
